Day 149

Surat Thani station, waiting around 11 p.m.

If you are travelling around Thailand,
it is quite common to include
the islands in your itinerary.

One common route is Bangkok- Ko Samui
(od Phangan or Ko Tao)
which is easy and quite cheap thanks to the local flights
that take off at the Suvarnabhumi Airport
and land near the beaches of Ko Samui.

But another option which is really interesting is
to travel by bus or train,
if not both ways,
at least one.

The train leaves Surat Thani
(a city in the south of Thailand)
several times every day
and it takes around 12 hours to complete the journey.
The idea is then to take the one that is travelling in the nightime,
so to sleep as a baby while the train is lulling you
(be ready for the freezing air conditioning)
and wake up around 7 a.m. to enjoy
the view of Thai countryside passing by from your window.

The transports from and to the station will be set up by the travel agency
so you don't have to worry about taxi boats, buses, boats ecc ecc

It certainly requires more time that the flight,
but it will add a lot to your experience.

Ps inside the Surat Thani station,
there is a lovely café with wifi, hot meals, coffee and fruit shakes,
so that waiting for the train will be a lovely break.
