Day 154

And if you're still breathing, you're the lucky ones..
There are some places,
hidden from commercial routes
that are the small treasures
every traveler dreams about.

was one of them,
a precious discovery we made
on a random trekking in Ko Phangan.

The bay of Than Sadet is a lovely and quiet
firth on the eastern coast of the Island,
famous for a series of small waterfalls
boarded by ancient inscription
of some Thai Rama.
But the spot offers much more
if you are not in a rush
(which is almost impossible -and nonsense- in Thailand).

After the tiny village,
climb up following the trekking panels.
About 200 mt after the Ranger station,
you'll see a panel showing the way to a panoramic viewpoint
on the highest peak overlooking the bay.
The place
(a complex of wooden huts built on rocks)
is a peculiar mix between a bar, a restaurant, a shelter and a house :
in fact, Porn, the owner,
lives right above the bar,
with no commodities or wifi whatsoever,
feeling happy and rich about life just with his music,
some visitors and the amazing view.

There is the possibility of booking a special barbecue for the night
-at least two days in advance-
with the option of overstaying during the night,
sleeping open air
enjoying the incredible moonlight on the bay
and the nocturnal symphony of frogs and birds.

Porn (I forgot the thai meaning of his name,
but it was wonderful and noble compared to the english one;
else you can use his nickname : Pam)
reminded me of an asian Bob Marley,
and will welcome you in his own house,
providing you with (really) good music,
good vibe,
relax
and reggae philosophy.
Ops, I was forgetting the amazing food
and the special herb rhum he prepares himself.

The price is around 650 Bath per person
(16 euros),
beverages are not included,
but the great view and the experience...

well, you'll tell me!

Ps if you don't want to climb up the mountains,
there is a stair passage directly from the beach,
and it takes around 15 mins.
Be prepared against mosquitos,
that's my tip off!
