Day 83

Just for you to have an idea about my daily life...
Yes,
I live with 9 boys.
So that it is quite common to see stair's handrails
turned into a boxer drying rack.

Meanwhile in Italy,
relation between is showing tensions of a disturbing scale.
Fabiana Luzzi,
sixteen years old,
stabbed and burnt while still alive
by her seventeen years old boyfriend.
Reason : jealousy.
Unfortunately we are not new to such horrors,
but what was even more shocking and depressing
has a different (political and cultural) nature :
during these days Italy is on its way for the ratification
of the Istanbul Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence,
and yet the Parliament was empty during the discussion.

What should we learn from this?
That respect for women is not only a matter or crime news,
but is more a cultural approach emebedded in our country
that has to change.

How do you prevent violence without education?
How do you educate new generations when public schools are thwarted with massive budget cuts?
How do you fight a phenomenon of pathetic commercialization of women in the media,
when public figures and political leaders have private bunga-bunga parties
(not so private in fact)
?
How do you build a healthier and safer country when the crisis is imposing
its own priorities?

Well, you believe in it and you fight for it.
I am too sick of being ashamed of a world that has the potential for being better.
